. a former lapd officer, now an alleged cop killer. police say he isn't just targeting cops, but their families, too. >> this has gone far enough. you know, nobody else needs to die. >> reporter: the killing spree started sunday in orange county, with the baffling double murder of a popular college basketball coach and her fiance. monica quan and keith laurence, shot in cold blood as they sat in their car. only last night did authorities put two and two together. quan is the daughter of retired lapd captain randy quan, who was instrumental in getting christopher dorner fired. in a rambling manifesto posted online, dorner blames quan and other lapd officers of a smear campaign, after dorner reported witnessing a fellow officer commit police brutality. the manifesto vows vengeance. a massive manhunt has the los angeles area on virtual lockdown. lapd putting extra security at their headquarters because the suspect used to be one of their own. disfor dornor is wanted in multiple shootings across southern california. the 33-year-old says he's declaring war on the lapd after losing his job with the department in 2008. according to his lengthy and often ram bleel onlineman confess toe, he wants revenge until his name is cleared. he writes in part, "the violence of action will be high. i will bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in lapd uniform, whether on or off-duty." he's accuse have had of fatally shooting a couple in irvine, firing on cops in chino, and killing officers in riverside. no sign of the man police described as arm and extremely dangerous. nbc's stephanie stanton has more from los angeles. >> reporter: this burned-out truck belonging to murder suspect christopher dornor was found thursday afternoon two hours east of los angeles. dornor himself is nowhere to be found. >> he's considered armed and extremely dangerous. >> repor

shooting rampage and here is what we know at this hour. dorner was fired from the l.a.p.d. back in 2008. he is suspected of killing three people and police say that dorner has posted a manifesto of some sort online and named his other targets. moments ago authorities held a press conference and are now focusing on the area known as big bear valley in california where they're going to go door-to-door in search of the suspect. for the latest we check in with adam housley on the ground there. what's the latest. >> reporter: for viewers who may not have been to southern california when you fly in from the east big bear are the mountains to your right before you get to los angeles, a popular area in the summer and winter time and ski resorts shut down midway when the suspect's truck was found there burned out. the latest i understand is this, authorities wanted to capture him before nightfall, that did not happen. they did find fresh tracks from his burned out truck up there, but led to nothing, they have a two mile radius right now, the search going on, they're going door-to-door and federal a
